Marvin Easy Tilt Double Hung Replacement Kits (April 1985–1999)
Marvin has discontinued the manufacturing and support for the Easy Tilt Double Hung window series (produced from 1980 to 1999). Consequently, individual top or bottom sash replacements are no longer available.
To address this, we offer a complete replacement kit. Please note: Because Marvin produced many window styles, our kits are custom engineered exclusively for this specific series.
Does your window qualify?
Before ordering, verify that your existing window matches all of the following criteria:
- Jamb Liners: Must have exposed plastic jamb liners.
- Tilt Operation: The liners must be compressed to tilt the sash inward.
- Sash Locks: Features one or two surface-mounted locks (refer to the illustrations below).
- Tilt Latches: The units must not have an integrated "Easy Tilt" latch system.
Kit Specifications & Compatibility
Our kits are sold as complete systems only. Each package includes the top and bottom sash, all necessary hardware, and new side jamb liners with balances pre-installed.
- System Integrity: These kits utilize an updated Easy Tilt system. You cannot mix or match existing original Marvin parts with these new components.
- Compatibility: Designed to fit standard 3 1/4" jamb pockets.

- Sizing: Sizes are strictly based on the visible glass size of your existing sash (the width and height of the glass you can see between the wood frames).

SPECIAL NOTE FOR UNITS MANUFACTURED PRE APRIL 1985 the oldest versions of the Marvin E-Z Tilt series double-hung windows did have a plowed (dado) bottom rail, and the weatherstrip was originally attached to the sill, not the sash. You can use these current kits as a replacement, but you would need to do some job site modifications
Here is the exact history of how that design changed, which explains why your current replacement sash kits (and the sample you had) don't match his older unit:
The Pre-1985 vs. Post-1985 Design Change
- Prior to April 1985 (The Customer's Window): Marvin engineered the E-Z Tilt (and the older Marv-A-Gard E-Z Tilt) with a plowed bottom rail (a dado cut running along the bottom of the bottom sash). On these vintage units, the weatherstripping was integrated directly into a vinyl sill cover on the frame's sill, pointing upward to seal into that groove.
- After April 1985: Marvin completely redesigned this setup. They eliminated the plow, moving to a non-plowed (flat) bottom rail on the sash. Consequently, they removed the weatherstrip from the sill cover and attached a bulb or fin weatherstrip directly to the bottom rail of the sash itself.
How To Modify
Because your replacement sash packs are built to the modern, post-1985 standard (flat bottom rail, expecting the weather strip to live on the sash), a customer with a pre-1985 frame will run into clearance and sealing issues
To make a standard modern sash pack work there are generally two choices:
- Modify the Sash: Use a router to cut the matching dado slot into the bottom rail of your replacement sash so it can clear and seal against its existing sill-mounted weatherstrip.
- Modify the Sill: Remove the vintage vinyl sill cover/weatherstrip assembly from its frame and update his sill to accept a flat-bottom sash, using standard surface-applied or bottom-rail weatherstripping.
Knowing this distinction will save you a ton of headaches if you are anticipating ordering a replacement kit for your vintage E-Z Tilt or Tilt-Pac system!
